Bistro No. 19

The menu at Bistro 19 changes daily, but there is always soup, a choice of two main courses, and a dessert. Prices are unusually reasonable given the location close to the National Theatre. The lunch menu, including soup and a dessert, comes to around CZK 160.

The menu is international. Soups range from traditional Czech cabbage soup with sliced sausage, Ukrainian borscht, smooth cream of cauliflower, and cream of sweet potato, to more exotic combinations such as red lentils and coconut milk. Pasta is regularly served at Bistro 19, usually in a simple combination with two or three other ingredients: gnocchi with pesto, fettuccine with chicory, or vegetable lasagne. And the restaurant is perfect for those who love slow-cooked meals, such as the selection of stews, slow-braised beef, or curry.

In its simplicity and variety, the food on offer echoes the Bistro 19 interior – which has flair and freshness. Bistro 19 is a family business led by Kristina and Rudolf Netík, together with Kristina’s father.

The restaurant is a cross between a bistro and a shop, where cookery courses are held, and changing exhibitions are displayed on the walls. The work of Czech and international designers is showcased on the shelves. Local names on display include acclaimed designer Jiří Pelcl, and look out for international artists such as Briton Tom Dixon.
