Main description
The castle was built in the 14th century, under the reign of Charles IV, to store the most precious relics and crown jewels. Karlštejn is a very impressive structure, with massive walls, the five-storey Imperial Palace and several towers, the highest of which is 60 metres high. Together, they create a magnificent silhouette. Thanks to its location on a rocky outcrop, Karlštejn Castle offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
On Tour 1, you’ll see the historic interiors of the Imperial Palace and the first floor of the Marian Tower (Knights Hall with St Nicholas Chapel, Deanery interiors, Emperor’s Bedchamber, Audience Hall, Banquet Hall, Royal Hall of Ancestors, Treasury and former prison).
