An Indian oasis a short distance away from Old Town Square. This is where you will find the intense flavours from the Indian subcontinent. This place does not offer the pretentious "milder" European versions. Here, you get the real thing.
The restaurant has its own Tandoor oven, where the cooks prepare the aromatic parantha flat bread and succulent lamb and chicken kebabs. The menu is the embodiment of the word masala, which in Hindi means a mixture of many spices. The Kashmiri rogan josh served here tastes like it had been prepared by a Mughal king’s chefs. The shrimps in pepper sauce are so juicy that your mouth waters after one bite. Rice biryani, an Eastern version of risotto, is served in three variations – lamb, chicken or vegetarian.
The smallish portions are surprisingly filling and can be washed down with sips of refreshing lassi. Do not forget to try the local deserts. A respectable end to an exotic feast of many strong flavours could be gulab jamun balls in rose-water flavoured syrup or rice kheer, which in the Indian Jewel, is spiced with a bit of saffron.
