The four-storey department store Máj is located on Národní třída, one of the main arteries of the capital. The basement of the shopping centre is home to the Tesco supermarket.
The Máj shopping centre begins a new chapter! The facade newly adorned with butterflies from David Černý's studio with the fuselage of a Spitfire aircraft are an artistic combination of harmony but also the destructive power of weapons, reminding us not only of the celebration of peace, but also of the wartime sacrifices in the fight for freedom. Beneath their wings, at the site of the triumphal march of the surviving airmen on 21 August 1945, lies a mosaic of 359 aircraft silhouettes embedded in the pavement. Together, they not only celebrate the courage of the Czechoslovak airmen, but symbolically unite the fragility of peace with the unshakeable strength of determination to defend it.
