Main description
Karlštejn Castle was built by order of the Czech king and Roman-German emperor Charles IV to store royal treasures, collections of sacred relics and crown jewels. Its amazing arrangement on several levels according to the importance of the different parts of the building gives it a unique and inimitable character. The charisma and grandeur of this castle is conferred by its powerful fortification system, its five-level imperial palace and its various towers, including the large monumental keep that rises to a height of 60 meters.
The castle tour lasts between 50 and 60 minutes. You will visit the royal apartments of the castle, which includes the historical interiors of the Royal Palace and the first level of the St. Mary's Tower, which houses the prayer rooms.
You may also be able to take a second tour to the top. There you will find the impressive Great Tower where the royal treasure is hidden. Don't hesitate to go up to reach the gold and precious stones! You can also enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape.
