The U Modré kachničky restaurant (The Blue Duckling) in the Lesser Town is the older sister of the restaurant with the same name (U Modré kachničky II) in the Old Town. Compared to its younger sibling, however, it offers a slightly earthier menu. It relies more on classic flavour combinations and does not experiment too much. What they do have in common, however, besides the name, is the basis of the restaurant’s specialties, which is duck meat. You should try the duck stuffed with walnuts or the flambéed duck breast, larded with dried apricots and served with almond croquettes. And if you’ve had enough of duck, you can always order pheasant breast larded with dried plums. As for the vegetarian menu, it’s short but contains one particularly excellent dish: tcholent with peas and flavoured with truffle oil. And don’t miss the desserts, especially the cakes (Black Forest and chestnut cake), which are true masterpieces of homemade pastry-making.
